Thank you for shopping with Phila Africa. We strive to ensure you are happy with every purchase. This Refund & Returns Policy explains when you can request a return, refund, or exchange, and how those processes work.
1. Eligibility for Refunds and Returns
You may be eligible for a refund or exchange if:
a. Defective or Damaged Products
If the product you received is faulty, damaged, not working as intended, or not as described, you may request a refund, replacement, or repair.
b. Change of Mind (Online Purchases Only)
Under South African law, you have a limited cooling-off period on distance/online purchases — generally 7 days from delivery — to cancel your order and request a refund if you simply changed your mind. (This only applies to online sales and not to in-store purchases.)
Products must be unused, in original condition, and returned in original packaging with all tags attached to qualify for a change-of-mind return.
2. Products Not Eligible for Refunds
Certain items may not be eligible for change-of-mind refunds. These can include:
- Customised or personalised products
- Perishable or hygiene-sensitive goods once opened
- Digital downloads or access to digital content after delivery
If an item is non-returnable, it will be clearly marked at the time of purchase.
3. How to Request a Return or Refund
To start a return:
- Contact our Customer Support team within the applicable timeframe (7 days for change of mind or as soon as you notice a defect).
- Provide your order number, proof of purchase, and photos showing the issue (if applicable).
- Our team will review your request and send you a Return Authorisation and instructions on packaging and shipping.
Return shipping costs:
- If the item is defective or incorrect, we will cover the return shipping costs.
- For change-of-mind returns, you may be responsible for return shipping unless agreed otherwise.
4. Inspection and Approval
Once we receive your returned item, we will inspect it to:
- Confirm eligibility for refund/exchange
- Ensure the product is in the stated condition
This inspection is usually completed within 5–10 business days of receipt.
5. Refund Process
If your refund is approved:
- Refunds will be issued to the original payment method used during purchase.
- It may take 5–14 business days for the refund to reflect in your account, depending on your bank or payment provider.
If you paid via credit/debit card, EFT, or another method, we will process refunds back to that same payment channel.
6. Exchanges
You may request an exchange instead of a refund if:
- The original item is defective or incorrect
- A suitable replacement is available
Please indicate your preference for a replacement when submitting your return request.
7. Partial Refunds and Restocking Fees
In limited situations:
- Partial refunds may be issued if the item is returned in a condition not suitable for resale.
- A restocking or handling fee may apply for change-of-mind returns (if specified at purchase).
8. Legal Rights
This policy does not affect your legal rights under the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) 68 of 2008 or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (ECTA). You may have additional rights regarding defective goods and online purchases as provided by law.
